Liska as a Hub of Jewish Tradition

Dating back to the 1800s, Liska became a well-known center for Jewish religious and cultural life. Annually, thousands of pilgrims visit Liska, honoring Tzvi Hirsh Liska’s memory. Liska contains over 500 Jewish historical sites, from cemeteries to synagogues, embodying a storied heritage. By the late 19th century, the Jewish population of Liska reached nearly 3,000, enriching its cultural environment. Liska’s influence extends beyond its borders, reaching nearby towns like Kerestir and impacting Jewish life across Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.

Local and international organizations are committed to preserving Liska’s heritage, ensuring its historical legacy endures.
